BlackBerry Messsenger Upgrade AGAIN…

OR NOT……..

First off I will let everyone know that there is yet ANOTHER download/upgrade for BlackBerry Messenger that came out a few hours ago. this one is 5.0.0.57 and can be found HERE.

It seems as though we have had a lot of them lately.

Now, on to another part of this topic that I am ranting about tonight. I do not typically rant about RIM, BBM, or any of their services since they do so much for myself and this site…however I feel the need to express myself tonight and make my voice heard because I know they frequent this site. (watching and lurking in the background).
 

Three days ago Chris and I had a BlackBerry Messenger catastrophe, to say the least.

He tried to restore contacts using the remote backup/restore feature of the new BBM. Apparently the email address he used is one that I also had used. So when restoring, it imported ALL of my contacts, my username and avatar..everything to his device. I then tried to restore mine and ended up with all my contacts PLUS HIS on my device and it showed mine with his avatar and username,,,I dont know how many contacts he had on his but I have well over 110, some of these being other site owners who's pin numbers I do not give out for privacy reasons.

We worked feverishly to try and resolve this issue and sent out a broadcast message about the situation. Most have been understanding and allowed him to keep them on his BBM. However mine became so messed up that I went as far as to completely wipe my device and reinstall ALL third party apps, one by one. Tedious I know, yet what do you do? Then after wiping and reinstalling BBM, I restored from my memory card, a backup that I had on file. Thankfully it was every contact, every group, everything I had before the great catastrophe…

On my device it showed my username and my picture, however for those that I have on my list, screen shots were being sent to me showing that it had my username with HIS picture. This has confused many as they are unsure as to who they are really talking to.

I began to remember how when one updates their status or avatar…we get notification now on our BBM about this, so I thought perhaps if I update my status and picture…it will fix this on everyone else's end. No such luck.

Battery pull upon battery pull has been done and I went as far as to call VZW and have them send service books from their end. I have to say thank you to each and every one of my BBM and twitter friends, that have been trying very hard to help me resolve this issue. While some have apologized for not being able to do anything, others have been searching sites and RIM's blog trying to find answer.

I have a few more things to try, will be attempting to DL the latest BBM version shortly and will restore from my sd card. At the moment the mobile website for BlackBerry has been bogged down by users trying to DL the new BBM.

Our tip for new users of BBM 5.0 regardless of which version, or just new users in general..

Remote backup/restore is a feature that can save you hours of hassle because if you lose everything you can regain it in a matter of minutes…however be careful as to how many, and which email addresses you select for your contacts to be backed up on.. especially if its an email address that someone else may have access to.
