RIM’s Push Service, Good or Bad?

Blackberry users have the best email setup right now with "push" email. This has been the way RIM has ran it for a long time. Is it time for a change? Are other smartphones catching up to Blackberrys?
With the recent outages from Blackberry, is push service really the way to go? Shouldn't there be a backup option INCASE of an outage. If RIM had a backup to their push service in the case of an outage, it would be full proof. Other platforms such as Androids, Windows Mobile, and Iphone have pull services with some push services. RIM refuses to give pull services to Blackberry users. With pull services in the case of an outage we still would be able to receive emails and use other applications.
